Maddie & Tae – Hot Duo!

Country music has received some great new talent over the years, but the latest duo is kicking up a real storm with their debut single “Girl in a Country Song”. They are of course Maddie Marlow and Taylor Dye, better known as Maddie & Tae. For the last four years they have been working together and it has paid off in all the right ways. In a matter of months they were able to turn country music on its head and delivered an outstanding debut at the Grand Ole Opry.

Everything started with the release of their single in July. By poking some fun at the way guys tend to objectify women in their bro-country lyrics and videos they have managed to grab widespread attention. Current sales for the song exceed 340 000 and the video went viral very quickly. They co-wrote the song with Aaron Scherz, who also played a part in the production alongside Dann Huff.

Maddie & Tae made such a huge impression that they received an invitation to one of the most important award ceremonies for country artists in addition to sitting down for numerous interviews. In one of those interviews they were asked what they were doing in 2013 on the night of the CMA Awards. The answer? They were sitting in their PJs eating popcorn. Within a year they went from the couch to a spectacular red carpet event and they made sure they were ready for the occasion.

Shortly before the big occasion took place they made a stop at WYRK for a rather unconventional interview with deejays Rob Banks and Liz Mantel. The latter invented a game on the spot entitled “Napkins” and even though it started with tame questions it got more personal as the game unfolded. At the end of the interview everybody knew that Tae passes gas, burps and sweats much more than her partner. She blamed the bad habits on her brothers and stated “No guys are going to like me after this video”.

They also made their “late night” debut in September when they appeared on “Letterman”. It was regarded as a performance that was full of energy and despite the nature of the song; it’s all in good fun. One of the most recent interviews they had was on “Women in Country” and it looked back on their lives before reaching success.

Not everyone was impressed with their song, such as Brian Kelly, singer for “Florida Georgia Line”. According to him he doesn’t know one girl that doesn’t want to be a girl in a country song. In response the duo said they never intended to step on any toes, and even though they can’t speak for anyone else it’s definitely not a position they want to be in.

Maddie & Tae has released their short EP on the 4th of November and it features the song that made them famous. The additional songs are entitled “Sierra”, “Fly” and “Your Side of Town”. For the revealing process of the cover art they relied heavily on their fans to share it by means of social media. They are currently very busy with their tour which has been scheduled to continue till late July.

The 20 year old country star from Baytown, Texas, is making waves with her debut single “God Made Girls”. Even though Raelynn received some good exposure after becoming a contestant on “The Voice” in 2012, the above mentioned single that was released in the middle of this year is the reason why more and more people are getting to know her. With an album release waiting after she completes her radio tour, she is bound to win millions of hearts with her musical talent. In November the single had officially reached 152 000 homes and the number is growing.

Looking back on the past year, one of the biggest highlights has to be her debut at the Grand Ole Opry. On 26 September she graced the stage in a sleek black dress and showed a new-found sophistication. In front of a large audience which included no less than 50 family and friends who came to support her, she sang her latest single in addition to “Young” and “Love Triangle”. Raelynn shared with the crowd the honor she felt of being invited to perform in the same place as her heroes did.

Giving her career another big boost is touring with Miranda Lambert. Entitled the “Certified Platinum Tour”, nearly 30 cities will see these two perform along with various others country new-comers coming January. In a recent interview Raelynn said that the time she has spent with Miranda has taught her a lot and the opportunity to work with the person that inspired her to sing in the first place is simply a dream come true. She also spoke of her gratitude for Miranda’s ex-husband, Blake Shelton. He was her coach on “The Voice”.

In the beginning of November CMT celebrated “The Women of Country” for the second time and they added four more ladies to the list. It was co-hosted by country heavy-weight Lee Ann Womack. Launched in January 2013, “The Women of Country” sees established artists paying tribute to the next generation of country singers whether they are signed to a record label or not. Among the four new ladies that were added to the group, Raelynn was one of them.

It really seems like 2014 has been good to Raelynn. One would think that releasing a record breaking single, touring with her hero and debuting at the Grand Ole Opry would make anyone happy. But then “People Magazine” just had to put the cherry on the top by including Raelynn in their list of 11 women of country that everyone should be listening to.

For those who like her debut single but hasn’t seen the video yet, it’s definitely worth watching. In the spirit of her dreams coming true, the video captures a fairytale. The visuals are out of this world and Raelynn looks absolutely gorgeous.

Raelynn was so impressed with all the love and support from her fans she started a weekly tradition called “Women Crush Wednesday”. Girl In A Country Song – Maddie & Tae

Maddie & Tae is the new country duo that has popped onto the scene with nothing short of a bang. Brought together when they were 15 years old, they have been singing together ever since. Both are gifted with star quality, musical talent and entertaining expression. Their debut single was released in July and it’s called “Girl in a Country Song”. Apart from being fun and exciting, it takes a humorous look at bro-country music while empowering the role of women.

If you’ve heard the song on the radio and thought it was fun, then you’ll love the video. It starts out very ditsy and typical, with guys whistling at two pretty girls in short jeans and bikini tops. In slow motion they walk down a dirt road while Maddie & Tie sing with a very “matter of fact” kind of attitude. After flipping a “role-reversal” switch the fun really starts. Instead of seeing two pretty girls coming down the dirt road, there are three guys. But instead of looking strong and sexy they take on the roles that pretty girls would normally play.

One would think that a cute couple of country singers like Maddie & Tae would debut with a video filled with glamour and great visuals. But director TK McKamy made the better choice and kept it simple, placing more focus on the new country stars rather than overshadow them with unnecessary special effects. Cutting between three main scenes where the duo is enjoying an outdoor party, writing songs in their room and playing guitar on the back of two pick-up trucks gave room to emphasize the message. In between there are shots where the guys try to look sexy and the only natural reaction to this is laughing.

The birth of the song itself has an interesting story behind it. Apparently Maddie & Tae were on their way to a songwriting session when the idea came to mind. In the car they were listening to country radio, which is somewhat of a daily tradition. They also discovered that a lot of the guys that were singing had similar lyrics in terms of women. Then and there they decided to make a list of all the lyrics they heard which objectify women in some way or another. Make no mistake; it was all in good spirit and for the girls it was a fun experience. All they wanted to do is give a voice to the girls that appear in the songs while poking some fun at bro-country stars.

As expected, the video went viral very quickly. This doesn’t come as a surprise because it brings something original to the country music scene. Instead of making a typical debut they settled on something a little more controversial. Just to be clear, Maddie &Tae have nothing against bro-country singers. In fact, they stated in an interview that they love listening to them on a daily basis. However, they did think it would be a good idea to show the world how silly some of their videos and lyrics can be. Well, they have definitely made their point and everyone is enjoying it, even the bro-country stars.

Kacey Musgraves – Katy Perry Tour

Born on 21 August, 1988, young country star Kacy Musgraves is making her statement in the world and it’s nothing short of fantastic. She has been writing and singing songs from the tender age of 8 and she knows about the required devotion to make it in the music industry. Kacy started selling demos when she was 18 while signed to an independent record label called Triple Pop. Now Rolling Stone magazine has branded her as one of the “loudest symbols of young country musicians” and this is based on her ability to embrace change.

Her first headlining tour was with Lady Antebellum in 2012 called “Owning the Night” and in the same year she recorded her solo debut at Mercury Records entitled “Merry Go Round”. One of the highlights in her blossoming career was the tour she recently finished with one of her heroes, Willie Nelson. Willie was so impressed with their collaboration that they decided to record a song together. It’s an old number Willie wrote in the 1960’s called “You sure this is where you want to be” and Kacy is very excited about the project. She said that it’s a song that still rings true after all these years and it never gets boring.

In March last year Kacy released her solo album “Same Trailer Different Park” featuring the above mentioned single. Two more singles off the album started appearing on the charts, “Blowing Smoke” and “Follow your Arrow”. The latter song reached Rolling Stone Magazine’s Greatest Country Songs of All Time, placing at number 39. Alison Krauss, John Prine and Lee Ann Womack are some of the people who have had a great influence on her road into the music world and it doesn’t look like anything is going to stop this train anytime soon. Now Kacy will be building more bridges by joining Katy Perry on her Prismatic tour this year. It has already kicked off in late June and they plan on hitting 46 cities, including some Canadian venues. Katy asked her fans to post videos on why their cities are great and from there she chose some regular venues and some new ones based on the videos of her fans. The tour will also feature other stars like Capital Cities and Tegan & Sara.

Katy is going to sing songs from her latest album, Prism, and she will be doing some old favorites. What should be interesting is the combination of the genres. Katy is known for her glamour and wildly entertaining shows while Kacy has a knack for writing lyrics that break the conventional boundaries. Katy is pure pop and Kacy is traditional country, so the fans are sure to be entertained.

When Kacy was confronted about her outspoken lyrics by the media and critics, she simply replied that her lyrics aren’t controversial for her. It’s not her intention or passion to write something just for the sake of pushing buttons. She writes about things she finds relevant and she does it with an honest nature without a hidden agenda. These are the traits of musical legends and Kacy is on her way to becoming one.
