Raelynn

November 27, 2014 By NashStar

The 20 year old country star from Baytown, Texas, is making waves with her debut single “God Made Girls”. Even though Raelynn received some good exposure after becoming a contestant on “The Voice” in 2012, the above mentioned single that was released in the middle of this year is the reason why more and more people are getting to know her. With an album release waiting after she completes her radio tour, she is bound to win millions of hearts with her musical talent. In November the single had officially reached 152 000 homes and the number is growing.

Looking back on the past year, one of the biggest highlights has to be her debut at the Grand Ole Opry. On 26 September she graced the stage in a sleek black dress and showed a new-found sophistication. In front of a large audience which included no less than 50 family and friends who came to support her, she sang her latest single in addition to “Young” and “Love Triangle”. Raelynn shared with the crowd the honor she felt of being invited to perform in the same place as her heroes did.

Giving her career another big boost is touring with Miranda Lambert. Entitled the “Certified Platinum Tour”, nearly 30 cities will see these two perform along with various others country new-comers coming January. In a recent interview Raelynn said that the time she has spent with Miranda has taught her a lot and the opportunity to work with the person that inspired her to sing in the first place is simply a dream come true. She also spoke of her gratitude for Miranda’s ex-husband, Blake Shelton. He was her coach on “The Voice”.

In the beginning of November CMT celebrated “The Women of Country” for the second time and they added four more ladies to the list. It was co-hosted by country heavy-weight Lee Ann Womack. Launched in January 2013, “The Women of Country” sees established artists paying tribute to the next generation of country singers whether they are signed to a record label or not. Among the four new ladies that were added to the group, Raelynn was one of them.God Made Girls -Raelynn

It really seems like 2014 has been good to Raelynn. One would think that releasing a record breaking single, touring with her hero and debuting at the Grand Ole Opry would make anyone happy. But then “People Magazine” just had to put the cherry on the top by including Raelynn in their list of 11 women of country that everyone should be listening to.

For those who like her debut single but hasn’t seen the video yet, it’s definitely worth watching. In the spirit of her dreams coming true, the video captures a fairytale. The visuals are out of this world and Raelynn looks absolutely gorgeous.

Raelynn was so impressed with all the love and support from her fans she started a weekly tradition called “Women Crush Wednesday”. Female fans who want to be her crush can send a “selfie” of themselves along with additional information and every week Raelynn will pick one to feature on her Instagram. This is her way of shining a light back on the powerful women that support her.

Kacey Musgraves – Katy Perry Tour

August 22, 2014 By NashStar

kacey-musgraves-guitarBorn on 21 August, 1988, young country star Kacy Musgraves is making her statement in the world and it’s nothing short of fantastic. She has been writing and singing songs from the tender age of 8 and she knows about the required devotion to make it in the music industry. Kacy started selling demos when she was 18 while signed to an independent record label called Triple Pop. Now Rolling Stone magazine has branded her as one of the “loudest symbols of young country musicians” and this is based on her ability to embrace change.

Her first headlining tour was with Lady Antebellum in 2012 called “Owning the Night” and in the same year she recorded her solo debut at Mercury Records entitled “Merry Go Round”. One of the highlights in her blossoming career was the tour she recently finished with one of her heroes, Willie Nelson. Willie was so impressed with their collaboration that they decided to record a song together. It’s an old number Willie wrote in the 1960’s called “You sure this is where you want to be” and Kacy is very excited about the project. She said that it’s a song that still rings true after all these years and it never gets boring.

In March last year Kacy released her solo album “Same Trailer Different Park” featuring the above mentioned single. Two more singles off the album started appearing on the charts, “Blowing Smoke” and “Follow your Arrow”. The latter song reached Rolling Stone Magazine’s Greatest Country Songs of All Time, placing at number 39. Alison Krauss, John Prine and Lee Ann Womack are some of the people who have had a great influence on her road into the music world and it doesn’t look like anything is going to stop this train anytime soon. [amzn_product_inline asin=’B00B6QXN6U’]

Now Kacy will be building more bridges by joining Katy Perry on her Prismatic tour this year. It has already kicked off in late June and they plan on hitting 46 cities, including some Canadian venues. Katy asked her fans to post videos on why their cities are great and from there she chose some regular venues and some new ones based on the videos of her fans. The tour will also feature other stars like Capital Cities and Tegan & Sara.

Katy is going to sing songs from her latest album, Prism, and she will be doing some old favorites. What should be interesting is the kacey-musgraves-album-covercombination of the genres. Katy is known for her glamour and wildly entertaining shows while Kacy has a knack for writing lyrics that break the conventional boundaries. Katy is pure pop and Kacy is traditional country, so the fans are sure to be entertained.

When Kacy was confronted about her outspoken lyrics by the media and critics, she simply replied that her lyrics aren’t controversial for her. It’s not her intention or passion to write something just for the sake of pushing buttons. She writes about things she finds relevant and she does it with an honest nature without a hidden agenda. These are the traits of musical legends and Kacy is on her way to becoming one.

Don’t Wait Up for George – Shooter Jennings

August 22, 2014 By NashStar

shooter-jennings-head-shotPaying tribute to a musical legend by covering the songs is always a gamble. Artists run the risk of being compared to the legend they pay tribute to and in reality this can’t be done. Ultimately it comes down to adding personal style while implementing the inspiration that particular legend left behind. This is the case for Shooter Jennings and his tribute to the great George Jones. Apart from just listening to his music, Jennings had a personal connection with Jones thanks to his father Waylon Jennings. For Shooter, George was a family friend and his personal touch to the three cover songs is evident.

Don’t Wait Up is a short, 5 song EP Jennings recently released. It features two of his own songs and three renditions of popular George Jones songs. It’s obvious that the EP received mixed critique, but in the end beauty is in the hearing of the listener and nobody can dispute that Jennings poured a lot of emotion and thought into the dont-wait-up-cover-shooter-jenningsarrangements. The first original song is entitled “Living in a Minor Key” and it was specifically written by Jennings for Jones to record. Unfortunately this never happened and Jennings decided it would be a nice fit for the short list. It is a basic tune that captures the good and the bad experiences in life perfectly, meaning Jones would’ve sung it flawlessly.

The second original song is called “Don’t Wait Up” and it sees Jennings honoring Jones with his familiar style. It is based on the thoughts of infidelity in terms of pop-culture and real life. Even though the girl in the song has no problem breaking hearts, the “hero” of the story doesn’t take it lying down. As for the cover songs, Jennings kept the focus on sounding original instead of trying to duplicate the voice of George.

Along with Katy Cole, Jennings takes on the deep and dark “If Drinking don’t Kill me”. It embodies the feeling of never ending torture through memories. No bars are open and the alcohol simply isn’t good enough to take away the pain. The duo provides a strong performance and leaves the listener with the haunting torture.

shooter-jenningsThe second cover “She Thinks I still Care” features a more electronic sound, but not without the darker touches. It tells the story of denial. Jennings admirably pushes through the song like a brave shoulder, but the words don’t hold any truth. In fact, Jennings does a great job by showing his hidden feelings while singing the supposedly detached lyrics.

The last cover song is called “The Door”. It is hard, brooding and slow, capturing the spirit of Jones in a different light. It is this mixture of sound that Jones would’ve appreciated and supported. Jennings doesn’t even remotely sound like Jones, but anyone who is familiar with his music will be able to hear the influence.

Overall it’s a solid EP and “Don’t Wait Up” can be considered as a great sentimental tribute to a hero and mentor. Instead of trying to mimic Jones, Shooter Jennings made the songs his own and that is a lot more interesting than another karaoke session.

Garth Brooks Comeback

August 19, 2014 By NashStar

garth-comebackFans will be glad to know that the country singing phenomenon, Mr. Garth Brooks, is back in the saddle and ready to break some more records. Even through his retirement he sold millions of albums and who knows what is going to happen with his latest plans and tour.

Since 1989 people have been singing along to Garth’s first hit singles, namely The Dance, Much Too Young and If Tomorrow Never Comes. From there he moved from strength to strength and placed his name among legends like Elvis Presley and The Beatles. Garth has released 19 albums during his career and 6 of them have seen diamond status. From 1991 until now he has been the best album selling artist in the USA and he still holds the record. Garth has a way of inspiring his fans and the magnitude just seems to keep growing.

Even though he hinted for several years that he would be retiring, he never really took that step. He always came back with another tour until finally he announced in 2000 that it was time to focus on family. He wanted to wait till his youngest daughter was at least 18 until stepping onto the stage again and so he left the fans with his last record Scarecrow, which was released in November 2001. Given that he only appeared for selected promotional performances, it was expected that the album wouldn’t do as good as the rest. However, he still participated in the charity foundation “Teammates for Kids” he started in 1999 along with numerous other causes.

Since 2005 he slowly started to make his way back into the music business and before announcing that his band will be taking part in a comeback tour, he has been playing at the Encore Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. His performances at the hotel were acoustic and solo, while most of the songs he played came from musicians he looked up to. This was a 5 year contract he signed in 2009 and it allowed him to spend time with his family during the week and only perform on weekends. As it stands the contract has ended and on 10 July 2014 he signed a contract with Sony Music Nashville. He also made it loud and clear that a new album will be coming and that a comeback tour is in the works.

The fans anticipation was overwhelming, because when tickets for the first show in Rosemont, Illinois went on sale Ticketmaster couldn’t handle the traffic. At least 160 000 people were in line to buy tickets, but the system simply couldn’t handle it. Only one show was planned and because Garth loves his fans so much, he added a new show every 30 minutes just to accommodate them. He finally had to stop at 10 shows for Chicago and he broke his personal record for ticket sales in this area.

If this is how the tour started then Mr. Brooks should get ready to add more dates to the other venues as well, because his fans have been waiting a long time to see him again. Get ready to enjoy the Garth Brooks Comeback tour.
