I Got The Boy – Jana Kramer

December 22, 2015 By NashStar

The “I Got The Boy” music video featuring the beautiful Jana Kramer is as sentimental as they come, and although it’s not perfect, you can’t stop watching. For those who haven’t had the liberty of seeing this music video yet, this is what you can expect.

Jana-Kramer---I-Got-The-Boy--feature

As the first notes of the music start to play the camera settles on an old box being opened by Kramer. She is sitting in the middle of a semi-empty room, obviously reminiscing about the past. Kramer looks absolutely gorgeous despite her casual attire and she proves why she is the spokesperson for Pure Silk shaving cream. Inside the box are various items, but the most prominent objects have to be the old love letters, given to her by the “boy” she loved several years before.

There are only two transitions the video makes, both of them putting Kramer in more formal clothes and shot in different locations of the house. The last is where she stands on the balcony overlooking a beautiful image of trees and grass covered in snow. The only real connection between the song and the video is the first scene with the box, but other than that it doesn’t really speak to what happens. After the first five seconds or so the viewer expects to see a “younger” Kramer having fun with her boyfriend, followed by the new woman in his life. However, the shot stays on Kramer and in the here-and-now.

Make no mistake, Kramer is great to look at and her acting skills really help to bring out the emotions of the song. But it won’t be far-fetched to think that the video could’ve had more power if more people were used to emphasize the beautiful words. Instead, the director Kristin Barlowe kept things simple, maybe because it’s a different way of bringing attention to the song itself. Kramer and Barlowe have worked together before so they are both probably happy regarding the finished product.

With Kramer’s low, yet sultry voice you’d think she had more albums behind her name, but this single comes from her second album, following a three year gap from her first self-titled release. This could be that her main focus has always been towards television. After participating in various small roles in several well-known shows, One Tree Hill is the show where she settled with a more permanent character.

In terms of this beautiful song, many will be surprised to know that Jamie Lynn Spears had a big hand in writing it along with Tim Nichols and Connie Harrington. Spears initially wanted to keep the song for herself, but in an interview she said it was recorded by the right person. The single is currently making its way up the Billboard Country Chart and nobody can argue why it’s so popular.

Maybe the video could’ve been stronger and maybe there was room for a few extra scenes, but few women look as gorgeous on screen. If there is one country singer who can keep everyone’s attention just by smiling, it’s Jana Kramer.

Neon Lights – Blake Shelton

April 2, 2015 By NashStar

Blake Shelton is no stranger to the lime-light. In fact, he looks very calm and collected when performing in front of large crowds. This is probably why the director of his “Neon Light” video, Cody Kern, decided to keep it natural. The song is the lead single from his 9th studio album entitled “Bringing back the Sunshine”. It was released in August and the video premiered in September. With more than 2 million hits on YouTube, the video doesn’t rely on any special sets or effects. Instead, it relies on the feel-good nature of the song and the spirit of the fans.

Starting out with slow motion shots of random fans having a good time and gathering for the show, the viewer is casually introduced to the “Ten Times Crazier Tour”. The slow motion shots continue to the moments just before the show starts, with fans lifting their hands in expectation while Shelton readies himself to go on stage. When he does make his appearance there is a surge of energy from the crowd. Throughout the video there are cuts to fun moments between shows and Shelton is even showed teasingly flicking off the camera along with a crew member. Other than that it’s the type of video you sit back and watch while having a drink in your hand.

Even though there is nothing really spectacular or even groundbreaking about the video, it serves its purpose. If perhaps Kern went with a video that suited the lyrics of the song then we may have had something more typical. Considering the song is humorously focused towards drinking away your ex and having some fun along the way, Kern made the right choice to keep it simple. Another factor that supports the choice of theme can be Shelton’s attitude. He admitted that for the most part his previous albums were released while he was happily in love. This one on the other hand sees him dealing with a second divorce, so maybe it’s good to just see him do his thing on stage rather than in a bar hitting on the prettiest blonde.

In essence this is a classic style for music videos, because fans always love to see their heroes performing live with the band. Also, it’s the type video that never fails to keep viewers entertained. Much more attention can now be focused towards the lyrics, which were written by Andrew Dorff, Mark Irwin and Josh Kear. One can also say that a little focus went to drinking. As a nice finishing touch Shelton takes a drink in front of the fans after the song is finished.

We are unclear of the meaning for Blake giving the finger in the video? Maybe it’s just over our heads…

In a short three months the song sold more than 400 000 copies and the video, of course, went viral. For critics it was a step back into the more traditional songs people had come to associate Shelton with, and although it was mainly received on a positive note by critics, the repetition of lyrics was criticized somewhat. Despite what critics might think, the fans obviously didn’t pay attention, because it still peaked at No. 1 on the Country Airplay charts and No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

Laura Bell Bundy – Two Step ft. Colt Ford

December 21, 2014 By NashStar

When we first saw Laura Bell Bundy’s “Giddy On Up” video, it was hard to watch without thinking about it being a strange Dolly Parton rip off.  Fortunately, Laura has moved on and with “Two Step” is now one of our favorites!  She sings, dances, looks great, and yeah maybe it’s a little Britney Spearsy/Jessica Simpsony, but we can take it!

Laura Bell Bundy is definitely one of the most delightful country singers around and her “Two Step” video is a testimony to this. The song is a duet with Colt Ford and despite the fact that it didn’t make big waves on the charts, fans appreciate her signature sound. As for the video, it’s just as much fun as the song and Laura looks absolutely amazing.

It starts off with a group of women, including Laura, finishing up their usual work day. However, their typical work day consists of handling heavy machinery. While listening to the lyrics it’s obvious why they are in this particular setting, which is typically reserved for men. They are proud, confident ladies who don’t need a man to get things done and in this case, they don’t need men to have fun.

In unison the group pulls out their flasks and toast to their bold independent statement. They are planning on doing the “two step” tonight and nobody is going to stop them. After punching out they all head to the ladies room where they transform from everyday workers into smoking hot girls, ready to take the night and turn it on its head.

As the girls start to do their thing they are joined by a large crowd including Colt Ford. At first the girls do the routine alone and then they are joined by everybody. Ultimately everyone ends up dancing and having a really good time to Laura Bundy’s “Two Step”.

The first impression viewers get is girl power and confidence. Laura and the rest of the girls are in control of the situation, they know what they are doing and they know how to celebrate their independence. But another thing that stands out is the fun factor. Their attitude in addition to the clear message that men won’t limit their fun is all in good spirit.

As expected Laura really tears up the dance floor. She had been dancing since she was a little girl and this is evident in the video. She looks comfortable, sexy and energized. That’s another thing about the video which makes it a winner, the energy from the ladies. While watching you’ll probably feel like breaking out your party clothes and start dancing with them.

Overall the video isn’t the most original. It’s a winning theme that has been done quite a few times by several pop stars, but it is still very entertaining. Laura never fails to keep the attention of her audience and this performance is no exception. It’s also obvious that the director placed a lot of focus on the dance moves, probably because it can be imitated rather quickly by fans. Chances are Laura started a new dance craze with her “two step” move.

Laura Bell Bundy is not afraid to use the sexy moves.

Some people may not appreciate her mixture of country and pop, but she is trying something new. Laura is one of the most daring artists on the scene today, which gives her a certain edge. She doesn’t fear the choices she makes. Instead she embraces them with both hands and she enjoys the fact that life is about living, not hiding in a comfort zone.

That’s What Love Looks Like

December 10, 2014 By NashStar

The song is based on the life of Hazel and Bruce Dorman, two people who had a very special love. They were married for 65 years before Bruce passed away, and Hazel still has so much love in her eyes when she speaks of him.

One night at supper Mama Bear (as she is affectionately called) was telling what a wonderful life she had with Papa Bear (Bruce). She said, “We were married for 65 years, and it just wasn’t enough.” That line stuck with singer-songwriter Jill Miller, and the next writing session she had with Randy Dorman (son of Hazel and Bruce) told him, “We need to write your Mom and Dad’s love story. It’s so beautiful. But what are their names? I only know them as Mama Bear and Papa Bear.”
